Virgil "JR" Hurst
Virgil “JR" Hurst, 78, of Pekin, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at St Vincent Salem Hospital. Born October 26, 1946, he was the son of the late Virgil R. Hurst Sr and Myrtle K. (Campbell) Hurst. On August 2, 1975, he married Eva (Smedley) Hurst, who survives.
JR was the former owner of Scotty’s Sanitation.
JR is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eva; his 3 children: Pepper K. Fleming (Jamie), Brandon R. Hurst (Amanda), and Ely J. Hurst; a sister, Patricia Caves; and 8 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Myrtle; a sister, Ruth Sparks; and 2 brothers: Chester Hurst and Lester Hurst.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home – Borden Chapel, with Tom Fultz officiating. Burial to follow at Franklin Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, February 14, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
