The Livonia Volunteer Fire Department came to the rescue once again when a two-week old burn pile suddenly reignited just off of West McCullough Road between Hardinsburg and Livonia.
Emergency responders received a call at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, February 28 regarding a field fire that was making its way toward a barn due to high winds. Upon arrival, I spoke with Darren Byler from the rescue team about how this fire got started.
“There was a burn pile approximately two weeks ago that had been burning here. It got covered and insulated with snow, and there apparently was still some heat underneath,” said Darren
As the snow melted, the burn pile began to heat back up.
“This wind started blowing and fed it the oxygen it needed to reignite,” Darren added. “It’s crazy since it was all covered from two weeks ago.”
Thanks to the Livonia Volunteer Firefighters, the fire was extinguished with no injuries and minimal property damage.
