  3. ATC: Daylight Savings Affects Service Hours
Write a comment

As the beginning of Daylight Saving Time (DST) approaches, the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission ("ATC" or "Commission") would like to remind permit holders of the upcoming time adjustment and its impact on the legal service hours for alcoholic beverages.

This spring, DST begins at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at which time clocks will move forward one hour to 3:00 a.m. local prevailing time. In observance of this time adjustment, permit holders would stand to lose an hour in which they would otherwise be able to sell alcoholic beverages under Indiana law. Despite this time change, the Commission has traditionally allowed permit holders to operate the same number of hours permitted by law, effectively allowing permit holders to sell alcoholic beverages until 4:00 a.m. local prevailing time when DST begins.

The purpose of this notice is to inform permit holders that they may continue to serve alcoholic beverages until 4 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, due to the time change. After this date, all alcoholic beverage sales must cease or end by 3:00 a.m. local prevailing time in accordance with Indiana Code 7.1-3-1-14.
