Roger Irvin Hopkins
Roger Irvin Hopkins, age 87 of Salem, died Oct. 22, 2024 at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on Dec. 6, 1936 in Salem to Arthur and Mae (Spaulding) Hopkins.
On Dec. 26, 1958 he was united in marriage with Mary Sue Brewer. Into this union were born two children, Danny Lee Hopkins and Julie Ann (Hopkins) Voyles.
He was a 1955 graduate of Salem High School, a member and past deacon of the Canton Christian Church and a lifetime member of the NRA. He worked many years in the powered metal industry, retiring from MPP in Campbellsburg, IN. He was a proud 6 year veteran of the Indiana National Guard. He loved fishing, whether on a lake, pond or creek.
Roger was preceded in death by his son, Danny Lee Hopkins: one sister, Wilma Brown, 2 brothers, Russell Hopkins and Travis Hopkins and his parents.
Surviving are: his wife Mary Hopkins of Salem; his daughter Julie (Jeff) Voyles of Salem; his grandchildren: Emma (Eli) Brown of West Baden Springs, IN, Eric (Jill) Voyles of Calhan, CO, and Kara (Shaun) Cooper of Fort Branch, IN. Also three great grandchildren: Layla, Mia and Amelia Cooper of Fort Branch, IN.
The funeral service will be held 11 am Friday Oct. 25, 2024 at the Dawalt Funeral Home, followed by interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 until 8 pm and on Friday from 9 am until the time of the service.
A dinner will be held Friday, after the committal service at Canton Christian Church Life Center.
