Herbert "Herbie" Mauck Jr.
Herbert J. "Herbie" Mauck Jr. (1949-2025)
Herbert J. "Herbie" Mauck Jr., a devoted family man, proud veteran, and outdoors enthusiast, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center. He was 76 years old.
Born on February 1, 1949, in Salem, Indiana, Herbie was the son of Herbert Mauck Sr. and Thelma Casey Mauck. He graduated from Salem High School in 1967. Completed HVAC and Heavy Equipment Operator schooling.
Herbie voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army, serving a tour and a half in Vietnam and afterwards in the Army National Guard. His bravery was recognized with three Bronze Stars and several other military honors.
After his military service, Herbie worked for the Henry Vogt in the 1980's and later for the Clark County Highway Department. Herbie and his wife, Beth, owned and operated Mauck's General Store in South Boston for 12 years. He also founded Wild Turkey Farms Inc. and retired from the Indiana DNR at Deam Lake.
Herbie loved nothing more than spending time outdoors. He enjoyed riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and exploring the country with Beth. He was also an avid euchre player and loved playing with family and friends. Herbie was a proud Democrat, UAW member and devoted family man, always prioritizing time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
Herbert J. "Herbie" Mauck Jr. will be deeply missed by his loved ones and community. His unwavering commitment to family and country will be remembered for generations to come.
He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth (Lumley) Mauck they were married May 29, 198/7. He is also survived by three children: James Mauck (Betty) of Corydon, Jeffrey Mauck (Michelle) of Borden and Anna Hall (Jerame) of Pekin, two brothers: Marvin E. Mauck (Marion) of Salem, and Dale Mauck (Bernice) of Salem, a sister: Wanda Gale Cook of Bedford, three grandchildren: Ryan Lee (April) of Paoli, Jameson Hall (Maty) of New Albany, and Diesel Mauck of Borden, and three great-grandchildren: Lowen, Tobi and Abner.
Herbert is preceded in death by: a son Wesley Humphrey, a sister: Patricia "Patty" Mauck, and his parents.
Herbie's family invites you to a celebration of life in his honor.
