WEST WASHINGTON SCHOOL CORPORATION

The Board of School Trustees of West Washington School Corporation met in REGULAR SESSION at 7:00 P.M. in room 175 of the West Washington High School on Monday, January 22, 2024.

President Sama opened the meeting.

Adam Brown moved to approve the bank reconciliation/fund report. The motion was seconded by Tim Barksdale, passing 7-0.

Adam Brown moved to approve the claims/transfers as presented. The motion was seconded by Stephanie Keltner, passing 7-0.

Tim Barksdale moved to accept the minutes from December 18, 2023 and January 11, 2024. Carri Cambron seconded the motion, passing 7-0.

Mr. Chad Johnson and Dr. Angela Girgis were present to give an update on Early College classes and credits. They both stated that initial data shows good numbers as far as students who are taking the college level classes and number of credits being awarded. The number of seniors able to complete the Indiana College Core has doubled since last year.

Tim Barksdale moved to approve the Personnel Report as presented. The motion was seconded by Brian Farmer, passing 7-0.

In old business, Superintendent Nance recommended utilizing an asynchronous virtual day on April 8th, 2024 for the eclipse. There will be traffic issues before and after the time of the event, which is happening right at dismissal time for school. Claude Combs moved to approve using an asynchronous virtual day on April 8th, 2024. Carri Cambron seconded the motion, passing 7-0.

Also in old business, Carri Cambron moved to approve the updates to some WWSC board policies as required by state statute. Claude Combs seconded the motion, passing 7-0.

In new business, Claude Combs moved to approve the resolution to transfer amounts from the Education Fund to the Operations Fund with Tim Barksdale seconding. The motion passed, 7-0.

Superintendent Nance presented information to the board on an Early Literacy Achievement Grant awarded to schools by the state for elementary teachers and aides grades K through 3. Claude Combs moved to approve the grant distribution as recommended by Mr. Nance with Stephanie Keltner seconding. Motion passed, 7-0.

Adam Brown moved to approve the following field trips:

1/24/24-Mrs. Hepp & FFA to Vincennes University

1/26/24-Mrs. Popp & JAG to Ivy Tech Sellersburg

2/17/24-Mrs. Hepp & FFA to Louisville Farm Machinery Show

2/22/24-Mrs. Hepp & FFA to BNL for Chapter Challenges

5/17/24-4th grade to Holiday World

Claude Combs seconded the motion, passing 6-0.

Superintendent Nance mentioned for February’s board meeting he would ask for permission to use Rainy Day Funds for some safety upgrades. A breakdown of expenses was shared with the board. No action was taken on this item.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
