After a four-year absence, USAC racing returns to the high banks of the Salem Speedway. Their last race was in 2020.
In the early days of its existence, the track was noted for the open wheel events. It was a proving ground for Indianapolis drivers. The “Who’s Who” of USAC drivers included A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Parnell Jones and many more.
It is a goal of present owners Nick and Maegun Bohanon to return to those green root beginnings.
Nick, an open wheel racer himself, bought back the Joe James – Pat O’Conner classic last year. That race saw the first women ever to win the race and lead flag to flag. Taylor Fern could not be caught in the 65th running of this classic.
This race will return July 12, sanctioned by Auto Value Bumper to Bumper 500 Sprint Car Tour.
USAC no longer has an asphalt sprint car division.
Also running on that date will be the Kenyon Midget and Legend series on the smaller inner track.
On Saturday, August 9, the USAC Club Silver Crown will return, the first time since 2020. Kody Swanson has dominated the series with wins dating back to 2016 at the speedway. This race will have a purse of over $30,000 for 50 laps. These powerful front engine cars will run on the high banks.
