March 2, 1933 The Indiana Legislature adopted the cardinal as the official state bird.

March 4, 1889 Benjamin Harrison took the oath as president of the United States. As he placed his hand on the Bible, he wore a Prince Albert coat made for him by the A. J. Treat and Sons Tailor Shop at 24 N. Pennsylvania Street in Indianapolis.

March 7, 1974 Jenna Fischer, American actress (The Office), born in Fort Wayne.

March 7, 1917 Governor James Goodrich signed orders to create a major north-south road called Main Market Highway 1. It was later named State Road 1 and then US 31.
