Changes happen.

Sometimes changes are a good thing for a different scenery or in this case different teams you wouldn’t necessarily play in the regular season.

This is the case Salem can make as they recently were downshifted to Class 2A in all fall and winter team sports beginning in August of 2024 and go on a two-year cycle. Spring sports classification will come out later this year.

During the postseason the last couple of years in football, the Lions played Charlestown, Corydon Central, Heritage Hills, Madison Consolidated, North Harrison, Scottsburg and Southridge. However, starting in the fall, the Lions will play in the Class 2A Sectional 40 along with Eastern, Brownstown Central, Clarksville, Crawford County, Paoli, Switzerland County and Tell City.

West Washington will still play in Class A in sports, but will also see a different sectional lineup as they will compete in the Class A Sectional 47 against Eastern Greene, Edinburgh, Greenwood Christian Academy, Knightstown, Milan, North Decatur and South Decatur.

In boys’ basketball, the Lions will be pitted against Clarksville, Crawford County, Eastern, Mitchell, Paoli and Providence in Sectional 46. The Senators will be in Class A Sectional 63 against Borden, Christian Academy, Henryville, Lanesville, New Washington, Rock Creek and South Central.

In girls’ basketball, the Lady Lions will play the same teams as the boys with the exception of Lanesville, who moved up from class A to Class 2A based on their tournament success factor. The Lady Senators will also play in Class A Sectional 63 against the same teams and the boys except Lanesville.

In the Class 2A Sectional 30 in boys’ soccer the Lions will be with Charlestown, Corydon Central, North Harrison, Scottsburg and Silver Creek. The Lady Lions will compete in the Class A Sectional 45 in girl’s soccer against Austin, Providence, Shawe Memorial, Southwestern (Hanover) and Trinity Lutheran.

In volleyball, the Lady Lions will play in the Class 2A Sectional 46 against Clarksville, Crawford County, Eastern, Mitchell and Paoli. In last year’s Class 3A Sectional 30 they played Charlestown, Corydon Central, Madison Consolidated, North Harrison, Providence, Scottsburg and Silver Creek.

West Washington stayed in Class A Sectional 63 and will play the same teams in their girl’s basketball sectional.
