Turn one at the Salem Speedway was repaired and repaved with asphalt last week in preparation for Saturday’s open practice. This practice was for the high banks.

Fireman Max Gamble and track worker Brian Beach washed the excess gravel from the high bank. The water helps the asphalt cure faster. The asphalt was applied by E&B Paving from New Albany. Track announcer Will Greenwell indicated the repairs held up well.

The repairs were made in preparation for Saturday's open practice on the high banks. Salem Super Cars and Gas Cars participated in the practice.

Before the track was open for practice Saturday morning, Track Chaplain Rob Lee “paved “the track with prayer and stopped at different points around the track to pray. Lee has been doing this for the pass nine years. He is a member of Kentuckian Motorsports Outreach. Joining him this year were Jeff Rivers and George Crone with the Christian Motorcycle Association.

Heath Helton and the #16 crew from the Gas Series joined as well. Helton is the 2023 champion for the Great American Stockcars series.

The Vores Compact Series (front wheel drive vehicles) is returning this year for a new series at the speedway. The opening race for the series will be Saturday, June 8. Also featured that day will be Midwest Modifieds and the CRA/GAS Series Street Stocks Challenge.
