Opening day for Kentuckiana Kart Racing

 On a nice bright Sunday afternoon some 77 gas powered Go Karts challenged the 77 year old Sportsdrome inner track. Twelve divisions with ages from 5 to adults raced for the double checkered flags displayed by Josh Turner. One of the division racing is the quarter Midgets similar to the Go karts but with suspension system and using the Honda 120 engine. These are just like USAC 25’s. These programs can be a good start to gain racing skills at a very young age in fact Kentuckiana Kart Racing even has a Radio Flyer division. Some 20 battery operated karts raced in this division filled with those kids under 5 years old. The graduate class in this group is the Young Guns, fifteen year olds, using Front Wheel Drive vehicles with all safety items including roll cages. They put on a good show and lap time is limited to 18 seconds and if exceeded the driver has to drop to the rear. Jaxson Ziegler won in three different classes Junior Champs Heavy, Junior 3 Flat and Young Gun Feature. All go gas kart drivers must have proper safety gear. Radio Flyers must have bicycle helmets.
