Ms. Vera’s parents were for a good while migrant farmers, so she lived in many different states as her parents followed the work. When she married Vernon, he was serving in the Navy, and they lived in Maryland, California, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. In 1957, they decided that he would go into the ministry in the Churches of Christ. He preached and served as an elder, while they ministered together for churches in Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri, and West Virginia before returning to Palmyra, in 1999.
During those years of ministry, she taught ladies’ and children’s classes, counseled and “mothered” many ladies in their spiritual lives as she pointed everyone to Jesus and His Word. She has been known over the years for her sweet spirit and warm, welcoming smile.
Ms. Vera also worked as a custodian in the Harrison County Indiana public school, she made and sold special cakes, and was active in sales with the Tupperware and Amway companies.  More importantly she was a wonderful, serving, and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother.
