Mr. Roy Burns Jr., age 70, of Pekin, Indiana, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Meadow View Health Care and Rehab.  Roy was born in Scottsburg, Indiana to Roy and Mary King Burns on November 5, 1951.

Roy retired from his business, Burns Electric, due to illness.  This vocation was important to him, and he enjoyed working with people.  Grandfather, Kenneth King introduced Roy to keeping the Washington County Fair Grounds wired and going for the Washington County Fair and other activities. His best advice to all is to stay honest.

Roy attended Eastern High School in Pekin and Indiana University Southeast.

One of his best days he recalled was hunting in Colorado and killing an elk with a bow and arrow with his brother, Scott.  He also enjoyed many fishing trips with his brothers and brothers -in-law at Lake Erie.  You could also see Roy barbecuing chicken at the local American Legion. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, being the son of a Korean Conflict Veteran.

Roy was also a lifetime member of Fort Hill Church of Christ.  He attended church there until his illness prevented it.

Roy was also an artist and musician.  He oil painted and sketched many pictures.  He played and enjoyed many guitars.  Some of the staff at Meadow View played rock and roll for him up to his last days.

Roy’s family was the most important to him.  Along with his mother and father there were an additional 6 siblings:  Susan (Burgess) Calhoun, Sierra (Dennis) Collins, Scott (Teresa) Burns, Shelley (Melvin) Fultz, David Burns, and Steven (fiancée Brittany Leigh) Burns all of Salem who survive.

Preceding Roy in death were his parents, maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Frances King of Salem, and paternal grandparents, John and Ada Burns of Scottsburg and one niece, Gabrielle Leah Lainhart.

Visitation will be held with his mother, Mary Burns, Thursday from 4-8PM at Weathers Funeral Home and Friday from 11Am-1PM at Fort Hill Church of Christ. Funeral services for Mary and Roy will be held Friday at 1PM at Fort Hill Church of Christ.  Roy will be laid to rest at a later date beside his mother and father in Crown Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to one’s favorite charity or to:  Amedysis Hospice, 305 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, Indiana, 47130.
