Rita Pumphrey

Rita Carol Pumphrey, 56, Vallonia (Millport), went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 21, 2021.  She passed away peacefully with her family beside her.  Rita was born on Dec. 6, 1964, to the late Charlie and Gladys (Spoons) Raby.

She graduated from Salem High School in 1983. She married James Harvey Pumphrey Jr. on Oct. 15, 1982, in Seymour and he survives in Vallonia. Rita was a certified nursing assistant at the Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital where she loved taking care of people. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

Rita is also survived by her three children: Mitchell (Jane Bair) Pumphrey, Medora; Michael (Kelly) Pumphrey, Dudleytown; and Jamie (Nick) Helson, Milltown; two nephews who were like her sons: Cody Doyle and David Raby; grandchildren: Charley, Riley, Briar, Emily, Tucker and Flint Pumphrey, Anthony Warren and Clyde Helson; two sisters, Linda Darkis and Joanne Doyle.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Wayne and Carl Raby, and a sister, Sue Doyle.

Funeral Services for Rita will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia with Tony McCutcheon officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Johnson Funeral Home.
