Maxine E. Costin

Maxine Eugena Costin, 96, Salem, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, at Meadow View Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born Feb. 8, 1924, in Pekin, she was the daughter of Raymond and Alpha Blankenbaker Gray. She graduated from Pekin High School in 1942. Maxine retired from Kimball Office Furniture, Borden and after years of volunteering service, she worked at T's Antiques in Salem until age 92. 

Maxine attended High Street Church of Christ. She loved to work in her yard and flowers, traveling and spending time with her family.

On April 23, 1944, she married Ernie Costin. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1982. 

She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Forrest Gray, Hershel Gray and Basil Gray; and a great-grandson, Bailey Hamilton.

Survivors include two sons: Jerry (Nola) Costin, Lithonia, Georgia and Rick Costin, Salem; a daughter: Terry (Richard) Dixon, Salem; six grandchildren: Duane (Lana) Hamilton,  Ginger Butler, Kerri (Chuck) Williams, all of Salem; Tammy (Chandler) Gray, Georgia; Scott (Mary) Costin, New Harmony, Indiana; and Zach Costin, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a step granddaughter, Tabi Wooten, Crothersville; six great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a step great-great grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Gray.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Dawalt Funeral Home with Sid Dye officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery next to her husband. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Memorial donations can be made to the SHS Football Alumni Bailey Hamilton Scholarhip fund in care of the Washington County Community Foundation.
