Lucille Etta McClellan Overton

Lucille Etta McClellan Overton passed away at the age of 92 on 1/26/2023 of natural causes at the Hospice Pavilion of Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. 

Longtime resident of Clarksville, IN, Lucille resided at the St. Joseph Home, Little Sisters of the Poor in Louisville, KY for the past two and a half years.  She was born on December 30, 1930 in Salem IN to Essie Mull McClellan and Harley Crawford McClellan.  She graduated from Salem High School in 1948 and worked briefly at Allison Jet Engine Manufacturing in Indianapolis, IN with her sister Louise.   

 

Her first husband, George John Lynch, Sr., was a paratroop veteran, auto mechanic and race car driver. They travelled the US racing circuit extensively from Florida to California and in 1951, their daughter Roberta Louise Lynch was born in Indianapolis, IN.  She married her second husband, Russell A. Overton, an army veteran, U.S. letter carrier and automobile salesman, in 1960.  Their son, Troy Duane Overton was born in 1962 in Jeffersonville, IN.  For 27 years Lucille worked at the former Olin Chemical Company (“The Powder Plant”) in Charlestown, IN.  There she served as an inspector and union representative. 

 

Lucille was a Catholic and a member of St. Anthony Church, Clarksville, IN.  She was a devoted fan of the Indianapolis 500 Race, the Kentucky Derby and the Championship University of Louisville Men’s Basketball Team.  She enjoyed singing in church choirs and getting a fresh cut and style for her naturally curly hair. 

 

Lucille was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Louise (Charlie) Hunt; both husbands; nephew, Jeff Hunt, and grandson Tyler Wolcott.  She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Lynch Wolcott (Dana) of Rochester, NY and son, Fr. Troy Overton, Pastor of St. Thomas More and Our Lady of Mt Carmel parishes in Louisville, KY; niece, Teena Hunt of Nashville, TN; grandson Thomas Wolcott of San Diego, CA; and great-grandchildren, Oliver and Evelyn Wolcott of Albany, NY. 

 

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the Hospice staff for their attentiveness during her brief stay there and the Sisters and staff of St. Joseph Home, for their loving care of Lucille. 

 

 Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 11am at Kraft Graceland, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany IN 47150, with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery.
