Joyce Elnora Roney

Joyce Elnora Roney, 83, of Columbus, died May 23, 2023 at Keepsake Village.  Joyce was born April 10, 1940, in Tippecanoe County, Indiana to the late Charles Elmo Souder Sr., and Helen Elizabeth Mcknight Souder.  She married Robert Eugene Roney on September 18, 1959 in Fort Dix, New Jersey. 

Joyce graduated from Salem High School in 1958 and enlisted in the U.S. Army as a medic.  After her years in the Army, she worked for 20 years at Columbus Regional Hospital in surgery and recovery.  Joyce made little blankets for babies and was awarded the grand champion ribbon for her quilt at the 4-H fair in 2000.

Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Roney; Son, Michael Roney of Columbus; daughter, Lenora (Gerald) Adams of Columbus; brothers, Norman Eugene (Dixie) Souder of Salem and Charles (Alice) Souder Jr., of Scottsburg; sisters, Barbara (Ronald) Downs of Indianapolis and Patricia Tucker; granddaughter, Hannah Marie Roney and great-grandson, Andrew Gobel.  Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Treasure Ellen Broady.

The Funeral will be conducted on May 26, 2023, at 12:00 pm at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Milo Smith officiating.  Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service.  Joyce will be laid to rest in the Bethel Baptist Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.  Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
