John Drescher

John Joseph Drescher, 75, Pekin, died on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021. 

He had served as a football and basketball coach, as well as a Boy Scout leader. John served as chairman of the East Washington Football Committee that was instrumental in bringing the sport of football to Eastern High School. He was a friendly, simple man that always put his friends and family first.  

He was born on Nov. 1, 1945, in New Albany, to the late Vivian and Elizabeth (Belviy) Drescher.  John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Terrie (Clements) Drescher; children, Charles (Kelli) Drescher, Scott (Angie) Drescher, Shaun (Shannon) Bradley, Shannon (Hector) Nale, Jacob Drescher; siblings, Jeanne (Ken) Potts, Michael (Rita) Drescher, William (Debbie) Drescher, Bart Drescher; and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Paul Campus, 216 Scheller Ave., Sellersburg) with his funeral mass being celebrated at 2 p.m. Cremation will follow according to John's wishes and he will be laid to rest privately at St. Joe Hill Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to the Lions Club (c/o Vision Program, 10276 S. SR 335, Martinsburg, IN  47165), WHAS Crusade for Children (520 W. Chestnut Street, Louisville, KY  40202) or to the Eastern High School Booster Club (c/o Football Program, 1100 N. Eastern School Road, Pekin, IN  47165).
