Mrs. Doris J. Wells Steward, age 80, of Salem, transitioned from this life to her heavenly home peacefully on Tuesday, September 20 surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Steward was born November 23, 1941, in Washington County the daughter of the late Callie Wells and Lillian Tincher Morgan. As a hard-working dedicated mother to her family, she worked many hours at Imperial Clevite, Rose Acres Farms, Muscatatuck State School, and Silver Crest. Doris enjoyed working with individuals who had developmental disabilities. Her many hobbies included quilting, reading, mushroom hunting, being outdoors, and most importantly spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed working in the snack bar at the American Legion Bingo Hall every Sunday.

She is survived by her two sons: Bobby Smith and Kelly Steward both of Salem, a stepdaughter: Wendy Little (Howard) of Salem, two sisters: Carolyn Wells Fultz and Tish Wells Crum both of Salem, four grandchildren:  Nikita Smith (Chad), Lane Smith (Hannah), Paisley Steward, and Brantley Steward and a step-grandson:  Montana Wilson. She was preceded in death by a brother:  Junior Wells, a nephew: David Wells, a niece:  Katie Wells and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1PM at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Livonia Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 10AM-time of service.

Memorial donations to Adaptive Hospice of Jeffersonville.

A dinner for family and friends will follow the service at the Bingo Hall.
