Connie Sue Zaring Fultz

Connie Sue Zaring Fultz passed away surrounded by loved ones shortly after sunrise on Friday, November 26, 2021, after a three year battle with cancer.

Connie was born on her maternal grandparents’ farm on April 27, 1958, in Washington County, Indiana.

Connie grew up in Little York, Indiana, spending her early years living in a rural general store owned by her parents. She enjoyed time spent on her grandparents’ farm, participating in 4H, and being a member of Little York Christian Church.

In 1976, Connie graduated as valedictorian from Salem High School in Indiana.  She was also the president of the National Honor Society and, as a member of the Office Education Association, she placed 2nd in their national information-communications competition. Connie graduated with a Business Degree from Indiana State University in 1979.

Connie met her future husband, Ted Fultz, in high school. They were married at Little York Christian Church on May 26, 1979. Connie and Ted lived at various military installations in the U.S. and in Germany while Ted served as an Army officer.

Settling in Ottawa, Illinois in 1992, Connie worked in the Ottawa Elementary School District for 20 years - most notably as the Jefferson Elementary School Librarian from 2001 to 2015. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, a member of Ottawa Garden Club, Book Babes Book Club, and the local chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Connie was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, gardening, animals, traveling, and watching football.

She is survived by her husband, Ted Fultz of Ottawa, IL; daughters: Cathy (Andy) Derwin of Aurora, IL;  Emily Fultz of Ukiah, CA; Laura (Griffin) Youngstrum of Ottawa, IL; grandchildren: Gibson and Gwen Derwin; and a sister, Freeda (Steve) Hawn of Little York, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gayle (Williams) Zaring, and grandchildren Parker and Grace Derwin.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1st at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home in Ottawa, IL.  Connie’s family respectfully requests masks be worn by all in attendance.  A memorial service for Connie will be held at a future time at the Little York Christian Church, Little York, IN.
