Brian David Bailey

Brian David Bailey of Bloomington, Indiana passed away from his earthly home to his eternal heavenly home on May 5, 2022. He was born to David and Diana Bailey on November 27, 1961 in Salem, Indiana. Their sadness in losing their son is immeasurable. On August 9, 1986 he married the love of his life, Deidre Jill (Thomas) Bailey who now lives with a broken heart. Their children, Derek (Erika) Bailey and Brittany Bailey (Ryan Stout), and their grandchildren, Lola Bailey, Korver Bailey, Aalayah Bailey, Jordan Stout and Haleigh Stout will miss him dearly and will try to honor his legacy every day of their lives.

Brian also left behind his sister, Sara Jo (Steve) Stewart, and his aunt, Ruth Karen Bailey who are missing a piece of their hearts.

There are seven nephews and a niece who have lost their favorite uncle and brothers and sisters in law who will miss their friend and family member.

Brian loved Jesus first. He was madly in love with his wife, Jill, and deeply cherished and was so proud of his children, Derek and Brittany. Their spouses, Erika and Ryan, were perfect matches for his kids and were loved by Brian as much as his own children. There can’t be another papaw in this world who loved and adored his grandchildren more. Lola, Korver, Aalayah, Jordan and Haleigh took up his whole heart.

He was the best son, brother, and nephew, and the favorite uncle to his niece and seven nephews.

After graduating from Eastern High School in Pekin, Indiana in 1980 and University of Evansville in 1984, he worked for 35 years at NSWC Crane in electrical engineering, tech transfer, and as Director of Strategic Communications. He received his Masters in Public Administration from Indiana University.

He was a board member, employee, volunteer and coach for Distinxion making an impact on hundreds of junior high and high school basketball and baseball players.

He coached hundreds of boys and girls in baseball, basketball and volleyball. His favorite coaching experiences were those when he coached his children in their favorite sports and then when he coached with his children as they shared their love and experience with others.

He was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church where he served joyfully in so many capacities: Elder, deacon, junior high and high school youth sponsor, nursery worker, marriage ministry leader, media ministry, drama ministry….the list goes on and on. He gave the best communion meditations based on his personal experiences while making people laugh and touching their hearts as we remembered the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior.

He and Brittany were Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in Monroe County.

Brian loved to golf, fish, and play games of all kinds. He spent many days on the golf course with his golfing buddies and many evenings playing cards with family and friends.

No one loved Christmas more than Brian. He is certain that one Christmas Eve when he was a young boy, Santa peeked his head in his bedroom door and winked at him. He rented a lift each year and lit the outside of his house with beautiful lights. He thought there could never be enough Christmas trees in his house and decorated up to 17 different themed trees in his home.

He loved his dogs: Victor, Jasper, and Charlie, who have met him over that rainbow bridge; and Joey, who continues to run to the door waiting for him to come home. And he also loved his grand dog , Mozzie.

His final gift to others was his donation to the Indiana Donor Program so that others might have a better chance to live. Brian’s lungs, liver, and pancreas were saved for research. His kidneys were taken to save or extend the life of two individuals waiting for a life saving donation.

A celebration of life was held at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Contributions may be made in Brian Bailey’s memory to these three charitable organizations that were dear to his heart.
