Betty Hattabaugh passed away at her home in Sellersburg. She was a beloved family member and friend.

She was born in Martinsburg to Gale “Cap” and Hallie (Donoho) Elrod. Betty worked 52 years at Salem Cabinet Factory, ending as a quality control manager. She lived in Vallonia for 67 years. In her free time, she loved to fish and be in nature.

Betty was quiet and unassuming. She was a poet, photographer, painter, craftsperson and cook. She loved dogs and all animals. Though she had no children of her own, she took care of the people around her, always lending a helping hand, treating all with dignity and respect.

She was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow "Woody" and four of her brothers and her sister: Jack Elrod, Gene Elrod, Jo Ann Elrod Hughes, Daniel Elrod, and Jerry Elrod. She will be remembered lovingly by her family and friends. She is survived by her remaining siblings, Nancy Elrod Mattson and Tim Elrod (Jane), her nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends.

Betty’s family is grateful to those who assisted her after surviving a stroke in 2014. These loving caregivers became trusted friends and loved her as much as she loved them.

Flowers are welcome, as are donations to the Humane Society of Washington County. https://humanesocietysalemin.org/
