Work out and honor a Vet

Memorial Day weekend is a great time to kick back and enjoy the outdoors or you could join the Memorial Day Murph Challenge, sponsored by the Washington County YMCA.

If you are not familiar with the Murph Challenge, it is a tradition meant to honor Lt. Michael P. Murphy. The Y website reads, “The Murph Challenge is a tradition that helps push us, humble us, and allow us the opportunity to dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor Lt. Murphy, a man who sacrificed everything for our freedom.”

It is a self-paced workout that can be done anytime at the Y from Friday, May 28 to May 31, or there will also be a staff lead workout on Saturday, May 28, at 8 a.m. There will be modified versions of the Murph Challenge offered at this time.

The challenge included running 1 mile, doing 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats and another 1 mile run.

The Y staff encourages those who participate to take photos and share them on the Washington County YMCA social media pages.
