Washington County votes

Washington County Clerk and County Election Coordinator Stephanie Rockey said that voting went well for the primary elections on May 3. The new voting was streamlined and Rockey said, "The poll workers loved it."

In the Republican race for U.S. Representative for District 9, Salem resident Erin Houchin came out on top. She claimed victory in Washington County with nearly 56% of the vote. She will face Democrat Matthew Fyfe, who received 55% of the votes in Washington County, in the general election.

State Senator for District 47 will remain in the hands of Gary Byrne, who was appointed to the position after Houchin resigned to run for U.S. Representative. In Washington County he garnered 64 % of the vote with 1,990 votes over Kevin Boehnlein with 1,121.

In other Republican races, Brent Miller won the sheriff's race with 2,286 votes, Sherry Wingler received 64% of the votes for the Washington County Assessor's position.

In the County Council races, Gerald Fleming won over Ryan Watson in District 1, while in District 2, Joe Walker pulled ahead of Tonya Marshall by 14 votes.

In the township trustee races, Jennifer Bowers claimed victory in Monroe Township with 65% of the votes, Pierce Township voting was seperated by 6 votes, with Brenna LaDuke edging out Jeff Clem. In Polk Township, another close race, Jr. Sullivan pulled ahead of Cameron Stahl by 12 votes. Ken Armstrong won the votes in Posey Township with 119 over 57 votes for newcomer Kayla Davisson.
