Seeking prince/princess contestants

It’s that time of year again and contestants are being sought for the Pekin 4th of July prince and princess contest.

The following is a list of rules and requirements to enter the contest, which will be held this year on Monday, July 5. 

1. All winners will be determined by a panel of judges.

2. Any boy or girl ages 4 to 6 years old may enter.

3. Contestants can be from any locality.

4. An entry fee of $30 will be required for each contestant.

5. Contestants will decorate their own float and will ride in this vehicle or float for the parade. Contestants are responsible for their own transportation. Trophies will be given for the best decorated float. Floats will not be a factor in selecting the prince or princess. Floats may be trucks or cars and may be a vehicle pulling a short trailer. People are NOT allowed to walk beside the floats for safety reasons.

6. A prize of $25 will be given to the prince and princess plus a crown and trophy. First and second runner up will receive a trophy.

Each constestant is required to send the following information:

1. A photograph no smaller than 2x3 and no larger than 4x6, for use in the program book. Photos will NOT be returned.

2. A 3x5 index card with the following information: Name, age, parents’ names, hobbies, school and sponsor name. The likes/hobbies should not be longer than three or four sentences.

3. Entry fee of $30. Checks should be made out to the Pekin Community Betterment Organization. Please do not send cash.

4. For the parade, all contestants must be in the East Washington Elementary parking lot by 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 5. Floats/vehicles will be lined up in order of first come and will proceed through the parade route starting at 10 a.m.

5. The contestants must be behind the stage at the park at 12:30 p.m. Contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.

6. After contest director Darlene Hall receives the entry, she will mail out a form containing details for the day.

Entries, including information and fee, should be mailed to Hall at PO Box 204, Pekin, IN, 47165. Entries will not be accepted after Saturday, May 29, and no exceptions will be made.
