Open sheep and goat shows at WC Fairgrounds

Open livestock shows 

The Washington County Fairgrounds and the livestock pavilion will be a busy place the first weekend in June when both the WC Sheep Club and the WC Goat Club will be hosting open shows. The sheep show will kick off the weekend on Saturday, June 5.

There will be classes for market lambs, breeding ewes, rams and showmanship. Sheep may start arriving at 8 a.m. Weigh-in will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The show will start at 12:30 p.m. with showmanship classes. Anyone needing rules or more information should contact the Purdue Extension - Washington County Office at 812-883-4601 or visit the website https://extension.purdue.edu/washington.

The Sheep Association will be selling bratwursts and lamb burgers along with chips and drinks beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. or the end of the show. Homemade cinnamon rolls and drinks will be available for breakfast.  

The goat show will be on Sunday, June 6. There will be classes for both dairy and meat breeds of goats including breeding does, market does, market wethers and a showmanship class. 

Goats may start arriving at 8 a.m. Weigh-in will be from 8 to 10 a.m. The WC 4-H Goat Club will present a showmanship demonstration at 10:30 a.m. for anyone interested.  The show will start at noon with dairy goat showmanship classes. The WC Goat Association will be selling concessions. 

The WC 4-H Jr. Leaders will also be selling ice cream on both days. The public is invited to come watch the shows and enjoy a good meal.
