Houchin makes history!

[click on headline for full story] When Erin Houchin was sworn in during the early morning hours of Jan. 7, she became the highest ranking elected official from Salem.  John Hay was appointed by President Abraham Lincoln, thus being the highest appointed official from Salem.

After a week-long battle deciding who the Speaker of the House was going to be, Houchin's family was able to share that moment with her and she hit the ground running. She was appointed to the committee she wanted and was able to vote on several pieces of legislation that were important to her.

See more about her first week in office in Tuesday's issue of The Salem Leader and follow her in Washington through the pages of The Salem Leader and The Salem Democrat.
