An Indianapolis woman was killed, and another man severely injured after being struck by a vehicle while riding their motorcycle late Saturday afternoon.
According to the Indiana State Police (ISP), the Washington County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from ISP with a fatal crash that occurred on US 150 between Becks Mill Road and High Street in Fredericksburg shortly after seven Saturday evening. Trooper Ben Davis with the Sellersburg Post’s crash reconstruction team and Sergeant Dustin Zehnder responded.
As a result of the initial investigation, officers believe that a red and black 2025 Honda tricycle style motorcycle, commonly known as a “trike,” was eastbound on US 150 approaching Becks Mill Road. As the motorbike continued eastbound, a white 2002 Toyota Corolla began pulling out onto US 150 from a private drive located on the south side of US 150. As the Corolla pulled out into the highway, the two vehicles collided, throwing both the driver and the passenger off the bike and onto the roadway. Tragically, the passenger, 67-year-old Theresa Marie Spencer of Indianapolis, Indiana was killed in the impact. The driver, who is from Louisville, Kentucky, suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital. The driver of the Corolla received minor injuries and was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Salem.
The roadway remained closed during the investigation, and officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office assisted ISP.
The investigation is ongoing, however, it has been determined that neither drugs or alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash.
The family of the deceased has been notified.
