Samaritan’s Purse’s project, “Operation Christmas Child” is holding their national collection week beginning November 18 at First Baptist Church located at 205 N High St, Salem from 3-6 p.m (times may vary depending on day).
Operation Christmas Child is a wonderful ministry led by Franklin Graham and the Samaritan’s Purse organization. Each year, millions of Christmas shoe boxes are sent all over the world with the goal of giving children in far away places a wonderful Christmas experience, and to teach them about Jesus Christ. Many of these children have never heard of Jesus or Christmas before. Last year, more than 11.3 million shoe boxes full of toys and exciting treats were sent across the world in the hopes of bringing children love and joy.
With First Baptist Church being the official designated drop-off location for our area, it is as simple as pulling up beside the church fellowship hall on North High St., handing your boxes to the volunteers, signing a form and driving away. Please see the full drop-off schedule below:

Those unable to attend a session can also earn the certification online at www.BQA.org.
Producers only need to attend one meeting to become certified.

If making your own Thanksgiving meal or getting an invite is not on the horizon this year, you may want to plan ahead. In a survey of 23 local restaurants and pizza eateries, three indicated they will be open for business.
McDonalds (601 S. Main St.) indicated a shortened schedule. Opening at 5 a.m. and closing at 11 a.m., they will then reopen at 4 p.m.
A spokesperson at Dairy Queen (604 S. Main St.) said, “we are always open.”
The only buffet in the area found to be open on Thanksgiving will be at Mamma Rosa’s. They will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Jay C Food Stores may have their carry-out Thanksgiving meals this year.
Other suggestions would be to go to Joe Hubers Family Farm and Restaurant, 2421 Engle Road, Starlight, or drive to Clarksville and visit Bob Evans and Golden Corral. Note: Huber's Orchard and Winery,19816 Huber Rd., Borden, is always closed for Thanksgiving.
In addition to restaurants, free meals for the needy will be served November 9 at the First Baptist Church, located at 200 E. Walnut St., from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Lastly, the Warming Station, located at 110 N. High St., will be hosting a Thanksgiving meal on November 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
