The Board of School Trustees of West Washington School Corporation met in REGULAR SESSION at 7:00 P.M. in the library of West Washington High School on Monday, September 16, 2024.

President Sama opened the meeting.

Adam Brown moved to approve the bank reconciliation/fund report. The motion was seconded by Carri Cambron, passing 6-0.

Adam Brown moved to approve the claims/transfers as presented. The motion was seconded by Stephanie Keltner, passing 6-0.

Stephanie Keltner moved to accept the minutes from August 19, 2024. Adam Brown seconded the motion, passing 6-0.

For the academic report, the school's new therapy dog, Maverick, was in attendance. His owner, SRO Aaron Dennis, spoke on the training he has already received and is continuing. There has been great feedback on having Maverick at school not only from students but staff as well. 

There were no patrons signed up to speak.

Carri Cambron moved to approve the Personnel Report as presented. The motion was seconded by Claude Combs, passing 6-0.

Superintendent Nance presented the certified staff evaluations to the board. Tim Barksdale moved to accept the evaluations with Stephanie Keltner seconding, passing 6-0.

In old business, the second reading of some minor board policy updates was brought up for approval. Adam Brown moved to approve the updates with Tim Barksdale seconding, passing 6-0.

In new business, board President Sal Sama opened the public hearing for the proposed 2025 budget. Mr. Sama asked twice for public comment. No comments. Mr. Sama adjourned the hearing.

Also in new business, Superintendent Nance recommended extending the same benefits that our CDL bus drivers receive to our Special Education route drivers (no CDL required and work 5 days a week). Those benefits are 7 paid holidays, 2 ALT days (annual leave time) each school year, and the ability to receive an attendance stipend. Claude Combs moved to approve these benefits for special education route drivers. The motion was seconded by Tim Barksdale passing 6-0.

Adam Brown moved to approve the following field trips:

9/21/24-Mr. Wolfe and BPA to Huber's for community service

9/25/24-Mr. Eisele and nursing class students to Caris College

9/26/24-Mr. Kritzer and JAG students to IUS

10/3/24-Mr. Wolfe and DC Earth Science class to Marengo Cave & Hoosier National Forest

10/18/24-Mrs. Schook & 7th/8th graders to Ivy Tech Sellersburg

10/31/24-Mrs. Acree and 5th grade to JA Biztown, Louisville, KY

11/1/24-Mr. Lewis & Junior High students to Malibu Jack's Family Fun Park

11/15/24-Mrs. Schook and 7th/8th graders to Vincennes University Jasper

12/6/24-Mrs. Schook and 7th/8th graders to IUS

Tim Barksdale seconded the motion, passing 6-0.

Superintendent Nance recommended that dual employed staff (for example: an aide and bus driver for WWSC) be able to receive the attendance stipend for each position they are employed. Stephanie Keltner made a motion to approve the attendance stipend for dual employed staff with Adam Brown seconding, passing 6-0.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
