Salem High hosts Food Science Saturday

The food design club at SHS started last January and their first semester was spent developing an  identity as a club. “This year has been a time for us to run toward our goals and experiment with several different projects,” said club sponsor Tressie Barrett. “The leadership of our officer team has been amazing. We have had a core group of students who are very involved and have really been the driving force behind our projects. I’m so proud of them and all of the effort they have put in to make sure our projects, including this event, have been successful.”

Barrett said the group wanted to introduce kids to food science and let them use some of the cool new equipment they were able to purchase with the REACH grant money.

Around 20 students, in grades six and below, attended the Saturday event. “We felt like this number was perfect to allow all the students to fully experience each station and optimize their time using the equipment,” said Barrett.
