Creekside art space to host classes, lessons

A new resource for local creatives is opening on schedule next week. “Creekside Art Space,” located in the scenic Delaney Creek area, offers classes and lessons in drawing and painting for ages 14-adult, and an after school program for students in grades 6-9.

The individualized art classes and lessons are based on research-based methods put together by long-time Salem High School art teacher Jane Spencer-Pierce, whose “coaching tree” boasts dozens of successful artists, art educators, and people in related fields.

There are classes available for both beginners and advanced students, ages 14-adult. Spencer-Pierce emphasizes that no prior experience is necessary - everyone is placed alongside those with similar experience levels.

The after school arts program provides a two-hour activity block each Wednesday. The group will explore art, music, and theatre. Spencer-Pierce notes, “It’s a safe space for young people to have a cultural experience disguised as fun. The program dovetails nicely with Salem’s early release on Wednesdays, and also provides an outlet for home-schooled students.”

Music and theatre educator Bill Spencer-Pierce has designed the after school program and will also be working with the students. A licensed teacher is on duty at all times.

The fall term runs from Sept. 15 to Dec. 11. Prospective students can learn more and sign up at CreeksideArtSpace.com.
