Area high schools are hosting proms in April-- it’s a long-established high school ritual.

Prom is short for promenade. They are modeled after the debutante balls of high society. They have evolved into semi-formal end of the year dances, creating lasting memories. The internet says they have become a billion-dollar industry. This encompasses flowers, special clothing, limousines and photography.
