Melanie "Gale" Bright, 68, Paoli, passed away at her home on Dec. 24, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 5, 1955, in Jasper, Ind., to Dewey & Mary Wininger Lewis. Her father was in the military, and she grew up living in many towns and states, as well as a Germany and Ethiopia.
Gale graduated from Pike High School in Indianapolis in 1973. She spent her adult life living and working in the Salem and Paoli areas. She was retired, but last worked in housekeeping at Paoli Health & Living.
Gale is survived by: daughters Tracy (Zed) Elbarbary of Henryville, Tammy Gehl of Charlestown & Tanya Pace of Paoli; son Matthew Moore of Paoli; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to the births of two additional great-grandchildren.
Additionally, she leaves behind three sisters: Dewetta "Sissy" Kenney (Mitch Mathena) of Paoli, Dena (C.B) Deaton of French Lick and Rhonda (David) Bullington of Okeechobee, Fla.
Gale was proceeded in death by both her parents, her stepmother Joyce Lewis and brother Gary Dean Lewis.
Cremation was chosen, with Dillman-Scott Funeral Home handling arrangements. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Paul “Bob” Rutherford, age 87, of Borden passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at Salem Crossing. Born May 3, 1936, he was the son of the late Paul Rutherford and Ruth (Bryant) Rutherford. On October 14, 1991 he married Teresa (Wheeler) Rutherford, who survives.
Paul was an Owner and Accountant of Rutherford Accounting. He served his country in the United States Army and was a proud member of the NRA. Paul was a member of the National Society of Accountants, the Indiana Society of Accountants, and a member of the First Christian church of Borden.
He is survived by his wife: Teresa Rutherford; 3 children: Bob Rutherford (Amy), Shannon Burton (Bill) and Holly Thompson (Chris); 1 sister; 6 Grandchildren and 1 brother.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church of Borden with Brian Combs officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 1:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M and on Friday from 10:00 A.M until the time of service at the Church.
In memory of Paul Rutherford, donations can be made to the First Christian Church of Borden.
Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home was entrusted with funeral care.
