A new name enters the sheriff race

A new name entered the sheriff’s race this week with democrat William (Bill) Denham. He will go against democrat Brent Miller in the May 8 primary. On the republican ticket, Wayne Blevins will face Roy Overshiner.
Current county auditor republican Randall Bills also got some competition for the primary this week. Republican Tony Maranto has put his name in for the nomination.
Republican Greg Ball, who was appointed to replace assessor Jason Cockerill, has filed to run the for seat. So far no one has filed to oppose him.
In the county council races, republican Benjamin Bowling has filed to keep his seat on the county council representing district 1. He will run against republican Sabrina Burdine in the spring.
Republican incumbent Jason Nelson has filed for the county council district 4 seat.
Republican John Revels is still the only candidate for district 2.
No one has filed for the county council district 3 seat.
No democrats have filed for county council seats.
Current Washington County Prosecuting Attorney Dustin Houchin is still the only candidate for that position.
Republicans Tim Rodman and Terri Graves will face each other for the county recorder seat in May. Democrat Lindsey Robbins has filed for the seat on the democratic ticket. She is currently unopposed for the primary.
Republicans Todd Ewen and Preston Shell will vie for the republican nomination for Commissioner District 2. No one has filed on the democratic ticket.
Several more candidates have filed for township trustee positions and township advisory boards.
At the state level, Democrat Nick Siler has entered the race for State Senator for District 47. That seat is currently held by republican Erin Houchin, who has filed for re-election.
Current State Representative District 73 Republican Steve Davisson has also filed to keep his seat. As of now, he is unopposed.
Democrats Liz Watson and Dan Canon have both filed for US Congress, 9th District, which is currently held by republican Trey Hollingsworth, who has also filed to run again.
The last day to file for an open seat is Feb. 9. The primary will be held May 8.
