Friday is the last day to file for May primary

Time is running out for candidates who wish to file for the 2018 primary election. Friday, Feb. 9, at noon is the cutoff for all candidates seeking open seats.

The primary race will set up the party nominations for the November general election ballot.

The largest race in Washington County is the sheriff’s race. As of press time, there are three Republicans and two Democrats seeking the sheriff’s nomination. Republicans are Wayne Blevins, Tracey England and Roy Overshiner. Democrats are William (Bill Denham) and Brent Miller. 

In the auditor’s race, current county auditor Republican Randall Bills will face fellow Republican Tony Maranto. No one has filed on the democratic ticket.

Currently County Assessor Republican Greg Ball is still uncontested for his seat, as is Republican Dustin Houchin, who has filed for re-election as county prosecutor.

There has been no change in the county recorder race. Republicans Tim Rodman and Terri Graves will face each other in May. Democrat Lindsey Robbins is still unopposed.

Only Republicans have filed for all of the open county council and commissioner seats.

Republicans Benjamin Bowling and Sabrina Burdine will both seek the nomination for district 1. 

Republican incumbent Jason Nelson is unopposed for the county council district 4.

Republican John Revels is still the only candidate for district 2.

No one has filed for the county council district 3 seat.

Republicans Todd Ewen and Preston Shell are still the only two candidates for the Republican nomination for Commissioner District 2. 

At the state level, incumbent Republican State Senator for District 47 Erin Houchin is still unopposed for the primary. Democrat Nick Siler is also unopposed for the race.  

Current State Representative District 73 Republican Steve Davisson is unopposed.

Democrats Liz Watson and Dan Canon have both filed for US Congress, 9th District, which is currently held by republican Trey Hollingsworth, who has also filed to run again.

In the U.S. Senator race, Democrat incumbent Joe Donnelly is unopposed for the primary. On the Republican ticket, three candidates have filed: Mike Braun, Luke Messer and Todd Rokita.

The primary will be held May 8.
