Salem Choir Alumni host “One-hit Wonders”

Posted

You’ve heard them on the radio and TV, those “one-hit wonders” that we whistle and hum along to. Sometimes great songs, sometimes silly, these tunes tend to stick in our heads long after the artists have faded into obscurity.

On Saturday, May 20, the Salem Choir Alumni group will host a scholarship benefit concert at Salem High School. Singers and instrumentalists from ten recent graduating classes at SHS will be on hand to entertain with their own versions of some of these memorable songs.

All the performers are veterans of the popular “Bohemian Supper Club” series. Performers include Lauren Allen, Taylor Alexander, Abby Corbin, A’ndrea Hollars, Brian Houston, Kellen Hazelip, Amanda Sebastian, Chris Journell, Jillian Reed, Axel Root, Straton Thomas, Jennifer Smedley, Zack Turner, David Spencer-Pierce, Dani Williams, and 2017 grads Laura Andis, Cody Blackwell, and Whitney Journell.

All proceeds go toward the Salem Choir Alumni Scholarship Fund and the Gary Hartsook Memorial Scholarship. The Choir Alumni is presenting its second annual scholarship this spring to a deserving graduating choir member. Choir alums Jennifer Smedley and Samantha Pittman are event coordinators.

The show is in a concert format, with one show only Saturday, May 20, at 8 p.m. in the Salem High School Presentation Room. All seats are $10, and tickets are available at SalemChoirs.org or at the Salem High School Bookstore during school hours only (no phone orders).
