Rovena G. Ayers, age 78, Walton, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017, in Kindred Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis, after a long and courageous battle with pneumonia.
Born Friday, June 23, 1939, in Campbellsburg, Washington County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Joseph and Pearl Browning Lucas.
On June 14, 1959, in Campbellsburg, she was marred to John “Jack” Ayers, who preceded her on October 18, 2017, just two and a half weeks ago.
Rovena retired in 2002 as an elementary teacher in the Southeastern School Corporation in Southern Cass County
She was a 1957 graduate of Campbellsburg High School and earned both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Indiana University, Kokomo.
Rovena is survived by sons Michael S. (Terri) of Logansport, Brian P. (Lisa) of Walton, and Kelly K. (Kelly) of Logansport; daughter Janalee S. (Bill) Kovacs of Whiteland; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several foster grandchildren and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Penny S. Lucas and infant Mary Jo Lucas.
Services for Rovena Ayers will be held at Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport. Friends and family may gather to celebrate Rovena’s life on Tuesday, November 7, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Carolyn DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Walton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
