Supporting Hoosier foster families

By:
Steve Davisson, State Representative District 7
With the need for foster parents at an all-time high, it’s important we recognize the critical role foster families play in a child’s life.
There are several ways to help. To learn how to become a foster parent or get involved with the foster care program, click here.
This session, I supported a new law increasing the maximum number of foster children who can live with a foster family from five to six, keeping more sibling groups together while increasing the number of safe homes available to young Hoosiers.
Lawmakers also passed legislation to create a foster parent bill of rights to give families a stronger voice when working with the Department of Child Services. The state will form a group of foster parents, child-placing agencies and other experts in foster care services to work together to clearly define the rights and responsibilities of foster parents.
Thank you to all of Indiana’s foster families who serve the state’s most vulnerable.
