Houchin thankful for quick action,  Federal Disaster Declaration

STATEHOUSE (May 7, 2018) — President Donald Trump has approved Gov. Eric Holcomb’s request for federal assistance in counties affected by flooding between Feb. 14 and March 4, 2018, said State Sen. Erin Houchin (R-Salem).

The president’s disaster declaration will make federal funding available for eligible individuals in nine counties, including Harrison County. Available assistance includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs for individuals and business owners.

"When I toured affected areas of my district, I had the opportunity to meet with local elected officials, first responders, families and business owners,” Houchin said. “The damage was widespread, and estimates for cleanup costs were high."

Federal funding is also available to the state, local governments and certain nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for rebuilding efforts in 27 counties, including Crawford, Harrison and Perry counties. 

“I am grateful to Gov. Holcomb for seeking this funding and to President Trump for his swift approval,” Houchin said. “These resources will help businesses and families in Southern Indiana and other affected areas of the state to rebuild and recover.”
