Unpopular Opinions: Olympic Sports

As we near the end of my #Unpopular Opinions series, I decided to lump several sports together. These are sports I have thoughts on, but not enough to do a whole column. So thus we have the Olympic Sports unpopular opinions.

In high school track and field, athletes aren’t allowed false starts. If you have one, you’re disqualified, and it’s the same way at the middle school level. At the Olympic level, you get two in the trials! So why can’t we extend the same courtesy to runners who obviously aren’t professional?

The 100m and the 200m finals are two of the most exciting events in all of sports, no matter what it is. These are the fastest men and women on the planet; the fastest player in the NFL wouldn’t qualify for the finals in either race. That’s insane. The 400 and 4x100 relay are also incredibly fun races to watch as well. If you never watch track you should at least take the time to do it during the Olympics.
