Marie Terry made a return trip to Bloomington to compete in the IHSAA Girls State Track Meet on Friday afternoon. She competed in the 300m hurdles for the second straight year. She finished in 21st this season with a time of 47.34.

Terry said it was a good way to end the season, but admitted she wanted to do better. “I was glad to get here. And I was glad to win sectional and regional,” she said. “I wish I would have done better, but I’m ready to run next year.”

There was certainly some adversity thrown Terry’s way on Friday afternoon. After warming up and getting ready to run, Terry was scheduled to only wait one more event before the hurdles. She instead was forced to wait for almost another hour due to a pop-up thunderstorm that drenched the track and forced her to warm up yet again.

That did have an effect on her preparation, she admitted. “Yeah, being ready, and then having to wait and having to get yourself ready again is hard.”

Eastern’s Head Coach Jennifer Olesh agreed that probably did impact how Terry ran. “She was warmed up and ready to go when they had the lightning delay. If you aren’t used to that it can affect you. We haven’t had that at all this year.”
