Summerfest at Salem Speedway this weekend

Racing, hot rods and music is set to takecenter stage at Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lotteryon Saturday night, July 28th, as part of Summerfest 2018presented by ACE Hardware of Salem. 

The ACE Hardware of Salem 50 for the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks headlines the racing portion of the evening,which also includes the Midwest Thunder Roadsters, SalemFront Wheel Drive Stocks and Midwest Asphalt Champ Kart Series.

A street rod and classic car cruise-in, burnout contest and musicfrom Polley DJ Service, are also part of the mid-summer festivities.

The event has also been designated Dollar Beer and Dollar Hot Dog Night at the track.  Dollar beer and Dollar Hot Dogs will be available all evening long.  

With the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks just past the mid-way point of the 2018 season the ACE Hardware of Salem 50becomes an important race in the season championship hunt.

Veteran Salem racer Todd Kempf of Huntingburg, Ind., tops the current Skyline Chili championship standings by 29 points (400-371) over Papa John’s Rookie of the Year candidate Baden Stewart of Campbellsburg, Ind.  Just 20 points separate the next tree drivers in the standings with Tim Rivers (361) of Salem third, Heath Helton (356) of Owensboro fourth and Brian Bayer (341) of Birdseye, Ind., fifth.

Austin Seay of Clarksville, Ind., leads a hotly contested race for the top spot in the Salem Front Wheel Drive standings, as just 10 points separate the top three drivers.  Seay (392) tops Carl Higgins Jr. (389) of Louisville by three points and defending three-time series champion Jesse Allen (382) of Lanesville, Ind., by 10 points.  Austin Scott of Lexington, Ind,, (369) and Chris Atwood (363) of Corydon, Ind., round out the top five.  

The Midwest Thunder Roadsters return to Salem Speedway on Saturday night for the first and only 2018 visit by that popular division.  The Midwest Asphalt Champ Kart Series is also part of Summerfest 2018.  The Thunder Roadsters race on the high banks, while the Champ Karts join the Salem Front Wheel Drive Stocks on the quarter-mile infield oval.

Summerfest 2018 is the second of three Hoosier Lottery Nights scheduled for the track in 2018.  Several lucky fans, age 18 and over, will receive Hoosier Lottery prize packs compliments of the Hoosier Lottery.  Race fans are also invited to visit the Hoosier Lottery trailer for a chance at winning addition prizes.

Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday with practice scheduled to get underway at 4:30, qualifications at 6:15 p.m. and the first race rolling off at 7:15 p.m. (EDT).
