Sign up now for baseball/softball season

The Salem Parks and Recreation Department is accepting sign ups for the 2018 baseball and softball seasons.

Park and Rec Director Brande Abbott is excited about the approaching season and is looking for volunteer coaches and league directors for tee-ball, 8U, 10U, 12U baseball and softball.

All volunteers must fill out an application, have a background check and be approved by the park board before assuming responsibilities.

Coaching applications must be turned in by Thursday, Feb. 15, at 6:30 p.m.

Youth ages 5-12 years old, including those turning 5 within the 2018 calendar year, may register at city hall on the following dates:

Wednesday, Feb. 7, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 8, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 10, 9 a.m. to noon

Thursday, Feb. 15, 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 17, 9 a.m. to noon.

If those dates do not work, children may be signed up Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (11-11:30 a.m. closed for lunch), at the park and rec office in Salem’s City Hall, 201 East Market Street.

First year players must supply an official copy of a birth certificate.

No signups will be allowed after drafts. 

Draft dates are: 

Boys 10U/12U baseball - Feb. 20

Boys 8U baseball - Feb. 21

Girls softball - Feb. 22

Tee-ball - Feb. 26
