Salute to Fathers Classic Saturday at Speedway

STOCK CARS, MIDGETS AND LEGENDS CARS HEADLINE

SATURDAY’S SALUTE TO FATHERS CLASSIC AT SALEM SPEEDWAY

SALEM, IN, June 10 – Stock cars, midgets and legends cars are set to take center stage at Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery on Saturday night, June 15th, for the Casey’s General Store Salute To Fathers Classic.

The Casey’s General Store 75 for the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks headlines the night of racing action, which also includes the first ever Salem appearance for the K&M Tool and Die Mel Kenyon Midget Series.

With the May 11th Lucas Oil Great American Stock race having gone by the boards due to rain, Saturday’s race will only be the second of the season for the popular Salem division.

“The Lucas Oil teams are raring to go and eager to get back on the high banks,” said Salem Speedway general manager Richard Deaton.  “Following the extended layoff we’re expecting a full field of cars and some super-competitive racing action.

Veteran Salem racer Kyle Hadley of Louisville, tops the current Skyline Chili championship standings for the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks, with Brian Bayer of Birdseye, Ind., second, and Will Kimmel of Sellersburg, Ind., third.  Just three points separate the top three drivers in the current standings.

A tight race is also shaping up for the top spot in the K&M Tool and Die Mel Kenyon Midget Series.  Kameron Gladish of Indianapolis and Tommy Kouns of Lebanon, Indiana, are set to continue their season-long battle when the midgets visit the Salem Speedway infield oval for the first time on Saturday.

“We are all looking forward to visiting Salem Speedway this Saturday, said United States Speed Association vice president Eric Bunn.  “Not only is Salem Speedway one of America’s legendary short tracks, it is in the DNA of the K&M Tool and Die Mel Kenyon Midget Series thanks to Mel Kenyon’s racing experience on the high banks.”

Kenyon, a seven-time USAC midget champion with 111 USAC midget wins to his credit, is expected to be on-hand for Saturday’s race.  The 86-year-old “King of the Midgets” posted four top five finishes in eight Indy 500 starts during his illustrious racing career.

Joining the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks and Mel Kenyon Midget Series on Saturday night at Salem will be the Towzone Trailer Kentuckiana Legends Series.  The Legends Series made a stop at Salem earlier this season only to be sent packing by a persistent rain that started falling during practice.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. on Saturday with practice scheduled to get underway at 4:15, qualifications at 6 p.m. and the first race rolling off at 7:15 p.m. (EDT).

Advance general admission tickets, priced at just $13 for adults and $3 for children, age 7-12, are currently selling and can be purchased on-line at www.salemspeedway.com or by calling 812-883-6504 or 1-888-246-7223.
