Although it might not feel like it given the weather, baseball season is right around the corner. Prepping for the season, the Lions traveled to Borden for a scrimmage with the Braves on last Monday night.

Assistant Coach Trey Haendiges said he liked some things he saw from the squad in the pre-season tune-up. “I believe we pitched really well. We have great options and we have confidence in all of our options. It was nice to see the boys pitch against another team and I was very encouraged. Great first outing.”

Haendiges noted there were a few pitchers and players on spring break and said they will certainly add depth when added into the mix.

There were things taken away from the scrimmage the team needs to work on as well. Haendiges said it mostly comes down to getting more experience under their belts in the early going.

“We just need to see more live pitching. That will come. We have been limited by rain so far this spring, as every team has but timing is not far off. We return many starters with another year of experience under their belt and we are excited to see where this team goes.”
