Lady Musketeers to fight for sectional title

The Eastern cheerleaders get the crowd pumped up near the end of the game.

Eastern’s Lady Musketeers will host the Crawford County Ladypack tonight at 7 p.m. in the bid for the Class 2A Sectional 46 championship. The game will be at Eastern High School.
Eastern advanced to the final after beating Paoli in the semi-final Saturday night. Eastern took the lead early and held the lead at the half.
The Lady Rams were not going down without a fight, taking the lead in the fourth quarter. With a minute left on the clock, Eastern was down two but tied the game up, sending the crowd into a frenzy and the game into overtime.
In the extra period, the Lady Rams took the lead early. Fouls were rampant and they paid off for Eastern, who connected on seven attempts while Paoli only sank two.
As time ran off the clock, Paoli hit a big three, making it 42-44, Eastern. Eastern’s Shelby Casey was fouled and she nailed the freebies, sealing the win, 42-46.
Tonight, Eastern faces a Crawford County team that defeated the Austin Lady Eagles by 26, 57-31, in the first game Saturday night.
Eastern is 18-7 on the season while CC is 22-3.
Salem and West Washington both won their sectionals Saturday night. Salem claimed back-to-back titles while the Lady Senators brought home the school’s first sectional title in girls’ basketball in 20 years.
Eastern’s last sectional championship came in 2016, the year the team made history by winning the county’s first state title.
