Izabelle Foster

The Lady Lions track team started indoor conditioning in about mid-February. A number of runners returned for a team that was hoping to step up into the middle of the MSC during the season. Among them was Izablle Foster, a four year varsity runner, Izabelle ran hurdles ran hurdles and a number of other races during her time with the track team. She was hoping that a strong end to her wrestling season would carry over into a strong season on the track.

When she first got the news that the season was canceled she was pretty upset she said. “When the season was canceled I was a bit devastated. And yes I was hoping that we would get at least half of the season but I kind of figured with what was going on but the chances of that was very slim so I was just being very realistic with myself...It Is pretty hard not getting to have this last year of track to experience with my coaches and friends and doing something I really enjoy.”

Coming into her senior campaign Foster said she was in great shape thanks to wrestling season. Being a step ahead she said she expected to have a good senior year and hopefully be a good leader as well. “was very confident I was going to do good this year. And I wanted to be a strong leader for those I would be leaving to lead and guide the way for younger athletes to come.”

Foster said she has been keeping in touch with some of her teammates, saying it’s hard on everybody, not just the seniors. “I have been keeping in contact with some of my teammates and some of the things we talked about is how it’s just crazy with this global pandemic going on. It is definitely hard for everyone and not just seniors. We’re all in this together right now.  And we just need to be strong and be there for each other while staying at least 6 feet away from one another.”

Looking back on her career with Salem, Foster said she wouldn’t change anything and that she learned a lot. “I would not change out any of my past seasons because they were great, I had good team mates who were proud to be the Salem Lions and cheer on all my teammates and I. I have learned a lot from all of my experiences being a part of the team. I will always be a Salem Lion and I will always be proud to be a Salem lion.”

Foster added that one memory that stands out for her is just hearing fans cheer during races. “One of my best memories is running a race entirely by myself and how everyone was cheering and yelling out funny things while I ran my hurdles like ‘keep going she’s going to catch you’ or ‘she’s on your heels’ and it just made me smile.”

Next up for Foster after graduation is she plans to go into the military and join the Air Force. She said they have the best law enforcement program and that she wants to be a police officer in the future.
