Wayne Blevins

Washington County Sheriff

Community involvement:

Active member of the Washington County F.O.P. Lodge 142, have participated for over 20 years with the county Shop With A Cop Christmas assistance. Put together and assisted with the F.O.P. car shows raising money for the F.O.P. Lodge 142. I helped put together and run the Salem Moose Lodge car show last year to help raise money for their Christmas assistance. I attend the Salem St. Patrick’s Church with my mother and at times attend the New Beginnings Baptist Church where my son and in-laws attend church.

Statement about why you are the best candidate for this office:

I have served the Washington County Sheriff’s Department for 23 years (first 5 years as a Reserve Deputy), performing several duties. Currently, I am a road officer holding the rank of Lieutenant. I have the experience, knowledge and training to run the sheriff’s department and jail if elected come day one of my term. I have been a dedicated deputy that has always treated people fairly and professionally. I have strong family values coupled with strong morals and ethics on and off duty. However, my experiences is not just limited to law enforcement. Over the last 25 years I have served the people of Washington County as a volunteer fireman, an advanced emergency medical technician with our county ambulance service, part of the crew that had delivered 4 babies out in the field with one of them babies being the miracle baby back in the 1990s. I have had several successful CPR and defibrillation saves over the years as an EMT, with one of them saves being my own daughter in the line of duty. I served 4 years as a deputy coroner and was a certified Medicolegal Death Investigator that investigated numerous deaths. I have spent the last 25 or so years serving the great people of Washington County in one way or another as a public servant and would love to continue to do so as their next sheriff. I believe that all of these things that I have done and have been fortunate enough to be a part of, have made me an even better officer. I believe that I have the experience, knowledge and training to handle any emergency and non-emergency call whether it be police, fire, EMS or any other call. I am that officer that if needed will, and has in the past, crawled into wreck vehicles to assist the injured or help save a life until the ambulance has arrived, as well as going to medical scenes and doing CPR to help save a life amongst other emergencies until first responders and the ambulance arrives. In short, I believe that all of these things are beneficial not only as a sheriff but to the community and its citizens as well.
