One killed in Tuesday crash

A wreck Tuesday afternoon, around 2:35 p.m., a wreck turned tragic, leaving the driver dead and his passenger seriously injured.

Jeffery Turner, 50, Pekin, was killed when the white Lincoln Towncar he was driving west on Old 160 near South Boston left the road on the north side of the roadway. Investigators say the driver overcorrected and sent the car across the road again, striking a utility pole on the south side of the road on the passenger side.

A passenger, Andrew Vires, 18, Pekin, sustained serious injuries and was flown from the scene by air ambulance to University Hospital in Louisville. Turner, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionist were called to the scene for further investigation. It is unknown if seat belts were in use.

Around 640 Jackson County REMC customers were without power following the wreck. A representative from the company said all power was restored in the area by 6 p.m. 

Assisting agencies were: Salem Fire Department, Salem Ambulance, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Pekin Town Marshall and the Washington County Coroner.
